WOW: Women Out of (his) control Workshops

 

WHO ARE THEY FOR

  • Women of all ages, backgrounds and abilities; any woman who has ever experienced abuse is welcomed. 

 

DESCRIPTION OF EVENT

  • Creative empowering playspaces that provide an opportunity for women to explore their creative genius, through non-traditional approaches and a range of art-forms such as: poetry, song writing, performance, visual and tactile art, music, song, painting, drawing, and mask making … whatever YOUR heart Absolutely no experience required.
  • Connecting to our deep wisdom, healing and celebration of the feminine and our journeys.
  • Collaborative strengths-based approach, fortifying women’s friendships, well-being and thriving.

 

WORKSHOP FACILITATOR 

  • Dr Kate Costigan, is a highly qualified and experienced social worker with a holistic practice in Wynnum,.
  • Her PhD Assisting the Rebirth of Women’s Community Culture” informs her work with women who have experienced DV.
  • She’s provided workshops in Far North Queensland and in and around Brisbane, in universities, women’s centres and community/neighbourhood centres, and with an Indigenous community.
  • She recognises nurturing our creativity, taking creative risks and succeeding strengthens us.

 

DURATION, VENUE & COST

  • Date and time: 1st Wednesday of the month 7-8.30pm & 3rd Wednesday of the month 1-2.30pm.
  • Venue: Wynnum Manly Community Centre, 105 Florence Street, Wynnum (disability access available).
  • Cost: $50 a session (concessions available).

EXPECTED OUTCOMES

  • The feedback Kate continues to receive, sometimes years later, is that her playspaces are empowering and resonate strongly with women healing from abusive relationships
  • The playspaces are one of the few places where women can come together, share their stories and celebrate being women.
